When is the last time you spoke the word “holy”? Is it a common word for your lips? If you said, “I am holy” would you feel strange or out of place? If you said, in the presence of a good friend, “I am holy”, would they look over their glasses and wonder? If you said, “I am holy” in the presence of an enemy, would he just say you are an arrogant fool? Yes, we do feel comfortable hearing that God is holy, and that there is a Holy Spirit, but have we lost the concept of “holy” in our culture? Are you holy?
When Isaiah saw the Lord in the temple, the seraphim cried out these wonderful words, “Holy, Holy, Holy”. Isa 6:3
(3) “And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” In a similar passage we read: Rev 4:8
(8) “And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.”
Another interesting verse shows what God called Jesus while he was still in Mary’s womb. Luk 1:35
(35) “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” The Babe in the womb is called “that holy thing“. Isn’t that interesting?
Now again, are you holy? Do your friends call you “holy”? Does God call you holy”?
I leave you with this penetrating verse:
(14) Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
